A zero net energy building is one that is optimally efficient and, over the course of a year, generates energy onsite, using clean renewable resources, in a quanity equal to or greater than the total amount of energy consumed onsite.

A building will most often acheive zero net site energy thru the addition of solar photovoltaic or solar thermal technology to the building or the building site.

Transformations, Inc has designed a three bedroom 1232 square foot home which has scored a "-4"HERS rating. In other words the home is producing more energy than it uses. President Carter Scott states "It has been incredibily satisfying to design and build a home that will essentially emit no greenhouse gases and cost the homeowner next to nothing for their heating, air conditioning, and electrical usage.

Expect regulations to require energy conservation methods to be a part of CODE for all new construction in the near future. Also there will be guidelines to be met for existing homes to improve energy consumption before they can be sold and/or rented. Bills are in the legislature for consideration as we speak. Some states have enlisted task forces to develope their own regulations. Get ready.
